Federal Protections for Transgender Students Withdrawn

The Trump administration on Wednesday night withdrew Obama-era protections for transgender students in public schools that let them use bathrooms and facilities corresponding with their gender identity.

How this impacts the courts’ interpretations of anti-discrimination law in pending cases remains to be seen. The supreme court is set to hear arguments in Gloucester County School Board v. G.G , the case of Gavin Grimm, a 17-year-old transgender student from Virginia who wants to use the bathroom that corresponds to his gender identity, on March 28.
